Embroidery is an easy way to elevate your design or brand.

No matter what kind of business you work for, from large corporations to local businesses, custom embroidered dad hats are perfect as company apparel.

If you want your employees to look professional or give a nice gift to your customers, nothing does that easier than a dad cap with your logo embroidered on it. Dad hats are one size fits all so you don't have to worry about them fitting the recipient.

Dad hats can be found in any color, many different brands and fabrics, and a price point for any budget.

Here are some tips to consider when starting an embroidery order for hats:

Custom embroidery is important to us. In recent years we've added state-of-the-art equipment, hired experienced staff, and studied embroidery trends to help you pick the best embroidered merch for your business.

In this article we'll show you examples of custom dad hats that we embroidered that are great merch ideas for the following organizations:

  • Schools
  • Coffee Shops
  • Restaurants
  • Landscaping Companies
  • Construction Companies
  • Health Care Systems
  • Breweries

Grounds For Thought Coffee Dad Hats

coffee shop dad hats

If you want to see a great example of a coffee shop that has become part of its community, look no further than Grounds for Thought.

We are in awe of how they've endeared themselves to their Bowling Green community.

Not surprisingly, Grounds for Thought does a great job with branded merch. These dad hats are no exception.

They use a simple, one-color, easy-to-read font on the front of the hat. To mix it up, they ordered multiple hat colors that all look good with the same design and thread color.

Pigment-dyed clothing is a major trend right now. We see it a lot with the shirts and sweatshirts that we screen print.

This style is particularly trendy among college students. So it's natural that a coffee shop near a college campus would adopt it for their apparel.

40th Birthday Hat

birthday dad hats

Who doesn't love to celebrate a birthday? Among birthdays, going over the hill at 40 is a big one.

Some of the most creative custom projects we work on are family related. Reunions, weddings, and birthdays are common favorites and often funny.

We love these embroidered dad hats because they are designed so well. If you didn't know any better, it could be the logo of a fashion brand.

As always, the design makes the merch. This hat is going to live a long life because it's a simple, clean design.

Fleitz Pumpkin Farm Dad Hat

pumpkin dad hat

In the Midwest, we do fall right. From football games to bonfires, and beautiful scenery to pumpkin farms, there's no better season than fall.

Fall is also the big season for pumpkin farms.

Our local farm, Fleitz's, has come to us for several years to help them with custom screen printing and embroidery.

We love this hat because it says very little but also a lot in one design.

Schmucker's Restaurant Dad Hat

It's a Family Treat to Eat at Schmucker's!

Schmucker's Restaurant is beloved in the 16153 Genova area. They're as well known for their welcoming family friendly atmosphere as they are their homemade pies.

The neon sign in front of the restaurant is iconic. So much so that fans of Schmucker's love to wear it on shirts and hats.

Anyone who knows Schmucker's immediately recognizes the logo on this hat.

More Dad Hat Design Ideas

This list of embroidered hats could get long pretty quickly. Nearly half of the embroidery work that we do is for hats.

Without getting too wordy, here are other examples of embroidered dad hats that we've made for our customers.

Oou ornaments that have relatable 16153 Genova designs such as “You will do better in 16153 Genova” or the famous “Christmas Weed” bring out the very best of 16153 Genova during the holiday season and make our Jūpmode customers even more excited for next holiday season.

Branded Apparel Gifts

The holidays are right around the corner and Jūpmode is here to help create the perfect gift for your employees and customers.

Whether you want to create custom jackets, sweatshirts or shirts for anyone from employees to family and friends, we've got you covered.

Jackets and 1/4 Zip Pullovers

embroidered quarter zip

A fleece full zip or quarter-zip jacket is ideal for any season, but especially during the winter.

We have many different brand and colors options that are sure to fit your company's branding guidelines.

Logos are typically placed on the left chest with these items. It's the perfect location to represent your brand or a meaningful design personalized just for you.

Embroidery is the preferred decoration method for jackets and pullovers. It matches the aesthetic of the jackets and works well on fleece to thick Carthartt jackets to windbreakers.

Jackets and 1/4 zip pullovers are great apparel items for employees and customers because they are so versatile. They can be worn to complete your employees' uniform during colder months, worn on a daily basis by employees who work outside in the field, and as a high quality appreciation gift for customers.

Crew Sweatshirts

embroidered crew sweatshirt

Embroidered crewneck sweatshirts are a staple of our retail line. This trendy style and look translate well to any business.

At the end of the day, the goal of any branded merch is to be worn as much as possible. This gets your brand seen by more people and creates a connection with the wearer because of their affinity for the clothing item they like.

Two of the best way to increase the usage of any apparel item is to use a high quality garment and to make the design trendy.

The crew sweatshirt in the photo above is pigment dyed which makes it feel comfy and soft the first time you put it on. The tone on tone logo is subtle and in style. This combination makes it an item that can be worn at work or out and about at any time.

Embroidered Polos

custom branded polos

Is there a business out there that doesn't need branded polos?

There are a lot of reasons to choose branded polos. If you want your employees to look professional in front of prospective and current customers, there's no better staple than a polo.

You’re the manager of a major airline, and your passengers keep leaving with your classy salt and pepper shakers. The practice is costing the firm millions a year in replacements and impacting your bottom line.

What’s the savvy decision to make?

  • Let your passengers keep the shakers
  • Hire a lookout
  • Shift to cheaper alternatives

(Take a moment).

It might seem sensible to pick the third option and go cheaper. Or, as the managers at Virgin Atlantic realized, letting passengers keep the shakers could be seen as a branding opportunity.

They decided to let passengers keep the shakers and even encouraged the habit with humorous engraved messages, like “Pinched from Virgin Atlantic.”

Essentially, Virgin Atlantic turned their in-demand salt and pepper shakers into company swag. These collectible items proudly waved Virgin’s signature red color and joined dinner table discussions wherever they went.

We’ve gathered four more perks to help you answer this question: “What is company swag used for?” As we go through these perks, you’ll also learn:

  • Why swag products are excellent advertisement channels
  • How swag items can motivate your employees
  • Why brand introductions rely on company swag
  • Where you can print high-quality swag designs

Perk 1 - An Attractive Advertising Channel

Company swag products have an 80% reception rate according to a recent Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) study.

This finding means that 80% of your target consumers will keep and use your swag item, providing you with display advertising and an excellent return on your investment.

To help explain our excitement over this 80% score, the following table compares the rates of return of company swag versus other advertising channels.

Advertising Channels Reception Rate

Swag items outperform these other advertising channels because of their discrete and intriguing style of marketing. These specialty items invite a viewer to independently discover your brand, rather than bombard them with information about product benefits.

This approach offers a breath of fresh air to today’s over-marketed and increasingly inattentive consumers, increasing your chances of success.

company swag products have an 80% reception rate

Perk 2 - An Instrument for Employee Motivation and Loyalty

Offering branded company items is an excellent strategy for acknowledging your employees and their dedication to your business.

This acknowledgment improves their morale, encourages loyalty, and enhances overall performance.

One study of a large meat-packing plant confirmed this idea with its conclusion that social recognition enhances productivity. The study found increased annual production values of $900k and $750k on two production lines after introducing social recognition practices.

Even so, to maximize the effectiveness of your swag items as staff motivators, you must personalize them as much as possible.

The more personal the merch feels, the more sentimental value your employees will place on it. The more sentimental value, the better the items are for motivating your workers.

Here’s an example of a personalized swag item for employee motivation offered by fancysweetstx. It’s a collapsible can cooler featuring custom texts (green arrow) and your brand design.

company swag item from fancysweetstx

It’s the perfect spot for a personalized quote that expresses appreciation and motivates your workers. Maybe, “Here’s to the marketing team that makes me look like a genius,” and your autograph or title below the quote.

Perk 3 - A Proven Strategy for Product Launches and Industry Events

Company swag items accelerate purchase decisions for new products in tightly contested markets.

Promotional products can make the difference in someone choosing between your newest launch and its closest competitors—enough to change buying behavior in your favor.

This effect is similar to those “Buy one get one free” deals at supermarkets or trade shows. These deals translate into additional value in the eyes of consumers, encouraging them to try your product.

A study on advertising solutions supports this idea with its conclusion that three out of four consumers switch brands after receiving some form of swag from a newly-met brand.

Company merch can also feel like a “limited offer” or a “reward.” This perception creates a sense of urgency in the minds of consumers, compelling them to act while they still have the opportunity.

As more consumers act, they generate buzz for your launched product, perpetuating the buying trend. It’s a perfect strategy for introducing your brand as it exploits our curious nature as humans.

H. J. Heinz employed this strategy at the World’s Columbian Expo of 1893, where he successfully gave away branded keychains to introduce his company. The organizers had to summon the police to control the crowds of curious buyers lining up at his exhibit.

Perk 4 - Lasting Brand Exposure

Company swag items provide lengthier brand exposure than advertisement messages on your social channels do.

Their functional nature keeps these specialty items relevant long after their first encounter with your target audiences.

Take the case of Virgin Atlantic’s branded salt shakers, for instance. The shakers can comfortably sit on any dining table for years without looking dated. This reality isn’t possible with marketing videos that require frequent updating to stay relevant.

Swag items also enhance your marketing effectiveness by utilizing word-of-mouth advertising.

They turn your current buyers into brand ambassadors, who are much more genuine in the eyes of prospective clients than conventional advertising.

In 1875, this trustworthy perception inspired Jasper Fremont Meek to develop branded burlap school bags for an Ohio store. It was a resounding success for Meek and the Ohio store, leading him to a manufacturing deal from Coca-Cola for promotional trays.

Factors to Consider When Designing Company Swag

There are plenty of company items to choose from to creatively capture and express your brand, from wearables to office accessories. However, consider the following for your swag project.

Item Usability

Your swag needs to be functional for your customers. This functionality gives them a reason to carry the product with them, exposing your brand rather than keeping it hidden away where it has little to no marketing value.

So, start with the question, “What form of company swag offers my audience the most functionality?”

This answer will help you select the most appropriate product for your swag, such as a desk diary for an office market and water bottles for an outdoor audience.

Item Durability

Your promo item's durability directly impacts its life cycles as an advertising channel. When your audience can no longer use the item, it loses its marketing value.

As such, you need to consider the material makeup of these items and how it fits your audience’s lifestyle.

This involves determining your audience’s environment. Industrial environments, for instance, need tougher fabrics for wearable apparel and reinforcements for drinkware.

You’ll also need to consider cleaning and maintenance needs. How many wash cycles can your product tolerate before exhibiting signs of wear?

Scratch marks and fading on that beautiful matte black coffee tumbler, for instance, will discourage usage, ending its application for display advertising. In this case, you’ll get better value with a sturdier design, such as this stainless steel tumbler by fancysweetstx.

They go to distant lengths to achieve this goal.

That said, embroidered merchandise, though an older method of branding, is still highly popular due to its professional and polished look.

When choosing the right embroidered merch for your clients or employees, there are a few secrets that you should take note of such as:

  • Embroidered merch is used in instances when a professional look is necessary.
  • Embroidery is used on custom headwear such as caps and beanies.
  • Sturdy and thick fabric brings out the best embroidered designs.

Did you know? Embroidered merch is available in multiple different colors. This is why most of our clients at fancysweetstx prefer it over other methods of apparel branding.

photo-snippet-how-to-pick-best-embroidered-merch

Here, we’ll discuss the various factors to consider when choosing embroidered merch for your brand.

We’ll also look at what embroidery is in detail and its advantages over other common methods of branding.

Step 1- Pick Embroidered Merch That Looks Good on Both Men and Women

When you set out to purchase embroidered merch for your brand, you have to ensure it looks good on both men and women.

For instance, you may decide to brand some hats to promote your brand. When doing so, ensure that these hats are unisex or you can print some for men and others specifically for women.

Unisex hats and beanies are functional and professional items to give out. They’re also inexpensive and will enable you to boost your brand without breaking your budget.

You can also opt to go for embroidered polo shirts. They’re not only a classic and comfortable selection—they also offer an endless amount of choice when you’re considering both genders.

Polo shirts are also versatile and perfectly strike the balance between a casual and professional style.

custom embroidered clothing

Your employees, business associates, or anybody you plan to distribute the merch to have to feel comfortable in your merch. If you fail to make your merch look good on both men and women, they won’t wear it, meaning your branding efforts are in vain.

Step 2 - Pick Clothes That Are Versatile and Complement Your Company’s Dress Code

There is a sense of pride that comes with branded clothing that breaks the monotony of a daily work uniform.

Establishing this kind of pride means embroidered clothing for your employees must be both professional and stylish.

For example, custom hoodies can be worn on the job or casually at home and still represent your brand in a positive manner.

An embroidered crewneck sweatshirt can be worn just as any other sweater, even in a more strict business environment.

In fact, embroidered crew sweatshirts are some of our most popular clothing items to embroidery. When paired with nice pants and worn over a collared shirt, they give a more professional look.

This makes them a versatile option as they can be worn at home and in the office.

custom Midwest Sunset hoodie

Having versatile merch helps a lot when you’re trying to build your brand image, especially at outdoor events and conventions. After all, the more your company apparel is worn, the more it is seen.

Step 3 - Embroidered Merch Reinforces Your Brand Awareness

As said, the primary goal for branding custom wear is to create brand awareness. This is why you should ensure whatever apparel you choose to go with highlights your brand.

The reason embroidery is still a very popular method of branding apparel is because it’s available in countless colors and can be used to embellish most clothing options.

This ensures that your target market can consciously associate your colors and logo with your product or services.

By using branded clothing, you increase the reach of your brand, which means more leads and conversions.

This means you must ensure that whichever branded apparel you chose to go with is professionally done to help customers absorb your brand subconsciously.

At fancysweetstx, we’ll ensure that your team shines and your logo is clearly visible in your preferred custom embroidered merchandise.

Here’s a happy remark by one of our customers:

“Used for company t-shirts. Excellent price, quality, design team, and quick shipping. First-time customers, but we'll be back! Thanks, fancysweetstx.”
- Christina P

Step 4 - Pick Clothing That Has High Longevity

The longevity of custom wear helps you save money in a major way. This is because once you distribute the branded apparel to your clients or employees, you know they’ll have it for a long time. Essentially, you’ll be ticking branded merch off the budget for a while.

Embroidered designs are stitched right into the fabric, meaning they’ll last as long as the fabric does.

For this to be perfectly beneficial, however, the embroidery must be done on high-quality fabric.

embroidered mustard trucker hat

At fancysweetstx, we have access to a large catalog of high-quality merch that is appropriate for both business and casual environments. We have the experience to recommend clothing that best suits your needs and budget.

This ensures that once you purchase branded embroidered merch from us, it’ll go a long way in promoting brand awareness for your team and provide you the greatest value.

What Is Embroidery?

Traditionally, embroidery involved using a needle to pass yarn through fabric by hand. It allowed for a variety of stitches and fabrics, and patterns were unique depending on the individual sewer.

Embroidery has been used for centuries as a method of applying decorative touches to garments.

Despite being an older method of branding, it’s still very popular and the most preferred method of creating custom clothing.

Embroidery has developed over the years and is now available in a limitless number of colors. It’s also faster to do embroidery with the help of an embroidery machine that can create over 7,500 stitches within a square inch.

Machine embroidery is uniform and allows for the sewing of identical patterns on a number of fabrics.

Embroidered prints and logos can last a lifetime and are not affected by washing.

When embroidery is done on quality cotton fabric, it lasts long and still looks appealing even after long-term use.

Take a look at the video below to learn how we embroider custom crew sweatshirts.

Embroidery vs Screen Printing

Embroidery and screen printing are the most popular methods of branding merchandise.

In the table below, we compare both methods in terms of longevity, cost, and appearance.

Quality Embroidery Screen Printing
Appearance Looks more professional and polished Looks good for large logos
Durability Prints don’t easily get damaged and can last a lifetime If shirts are cured and washed properly, designs should last for years
Cost Affordable for smaller detailed logos Cheap when doing bulk orders

At fancysweetstx, we specialize in both screen printing and embroidery when creating custom merch. If you’re not sure which method is perfect for your campaign, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to guide you on the way forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it better to embroider or screen print?

Deciding whether to screen print or embroider should be guided by your needs and choice of merchandise.

For example, if you’re making bulk orders to give to customers for an event, it may be best to screen print.

For your staff attending a convention, or just wearing it at work, embroidery is best as it looks professional and is durable.

Is embroidered clothing more expensive?

Embroidered clothing may be more expensive than other branded merch as it is often used on more expensive and higher quality merch. However, it looks stylish and professional and lasts for a long time.

Why do you think vintage clothing maintains its popularity? It’s largely the emotional, nostalgic factor ‌it communicates—the attraction and safety of bygone days.

So, how can you tap into this retro fever and build a line of collectible vintage t-shirts for your business? It all boils down to choosing the right elements that make up a vintage shirt.

In this guide, we’ll answer these questions:

  • What is a vintage shirt and its benefits?
  • Which common features identify vintage t-shirts?
  • How does pricing work for custom vintage shirt printing?
  • What key points can help you order the perfect vintage shirts for your business?

What Is a Vintage T-Shirt?

A vintage style t-shirt recreates the nostalgia, soft hand feel, and distressed, faded print of decades-old t-shirts. Technically, true vintage shirts need to be at least 20 years old.

Remember, vintage differs from antique, which refers to items 100 years old and more. It also differs slightly from retro, which means imitating styles from the recent past. That said, nowadays vintage and retro (and sometimes old school) are used interchangeably.

Now you’re thinking, how do you recreate a vibe and feeling that’s decades old?

We create vintage t-shirts using a combination of screen printing techniques, including reduced inks, halftones, distress textures, and no underbase to produce a faded print and well-worn feel.

How to Make Your T-Shirts Feel Vintage

1 - Soft, Well-Worn Tri-Blend Fabric

You don’t have 20 years of washing to achieve the signature, soft hand feel of vintage t-shirts for your business. The next best option is to make vintage t-shirts out of tri-blends.

Tri-blends are fabrics that comprise three materials in varying ratios:

  • Cotton: natural, highly absorbent material that is strong yet softens with wear and washing
  • Polyester: synthetic material stronger than cotton and resistant to wrinkles and shrinkage
  • Rayon: natural fiber made from wood pulp that is light, drapey, stretchy, absorbent and luxurious

twin oast brewery triblend raglans

By combining the three materials, you get a t-shirt that exhibits the best characteristics—soft, breathable, absorbent, and wrinkle-free.

2 - Faded, Distressed Print

There are five techniques we use to screen print a vintage shirt:

  • Reduced inks: we thin the ink before printing
  • No underbase: the dark shirt color shows through the ink
  • Halftones: tiny dot gradient in the artwork diffuses the color
  • Distress texture: a grunge filter gives the print a cracked, weathered finish
  • High mesh count screen: a screen with 230 mesh or higher deposits less ink

The aim is to create a print that appears faded and weathered right off the bat with minimal print layers that still maintain legibility.

Expert Tip: Some businesses that are on the cutting edge or tech-focused may not jive well with vintage styles. Partner with an experienced designer who can advise you on the best vintage elements that would suit your business niche and target market.

partner with an experienced designer

3 - Retro Warm Colors and Typography

maddie and bella coffee vintage sweatshirt and shirt

Vintage shirt colors are warmer and more golden yellow. They’re less intense and often avoid cool blue tones. These color choices enhance the nostalgia of the design.

Typography styles with a vintage feel vary from the hard and geometric to the intricately curved—think of art déco and steampunk vs art nouveau and mid-century.

When choosing typography, narrow down precisely to your target market. What do they value and what have they experienced in life?

For example, the intricate or delicate fonts of Victorian and art nouveau eras would be lost on a rustic customer who’s into hunting and living simply.

These four elements together make vintage shirts an advantageous merch choice. But what exactly are the benefits of vintage shirts for businesses?

How Can Your Business Benefit From Vintage Style?

1 - Vintage Shirts Create an Emotional Branding Opportunity

You know that feeling you get when you smell your favorite childhood meal or find a bunch of old, forgotten birthday cards?

It’s nostalgia. It’s potent. You’re basically creating a wearable version of it for your customers.

And how does it work?

They wear your merch, take a walk down memory lane and associate the positive memories with your business.

Benefit: You're able to achieve brand loyalty and likeability with a bit of ink and fabric.

2 - Vintage Shirts Are Timeless and Evergreen

macqueen orchards vintage shirt

If something is already old, does it go out of style? No, it just reinvents itself with each new iteration.

Here’s how it works.

By incorporating the retro fonts, warm filter and weathered look, the vintage shirts you recreate for your business gain an instant charming patina of age. Instead of looking dated after years of wear, they’ll only seem more authentic.

Pro Tip: One of the easiest wins we help our customers with is printing shirts with an older or their original logo version. It establishes the history of the company in the community and their success over time. Check out these examples of custom vintage shirts we've printed for our customers.

Benefit: You don’t have to keep dedicating resources to reinventing and updating outdated designs on your merch because the vintage style is timeless.

Price Range for Vintage Style T-Shirts

Now that you know all the features to look out for in vintage shirts, what are the accompanying costs?

Cost of the T-shirt Itself

T-shirt blanks for bulk printing can cost anywhere from $4–$15 depending on the brand and fabric composition.

For instance, high cotton blends cost more than low cotton blends. Additionally, t-shirts manufactured in the US are more expensive than those imported from Asia or Central America.

Number of Colors in Each Print

Multicolor prints cost more to screen print because they require more individual screens and ink. Each color needs its own screen.

At fancysweetstx, we can print up to 10 colors per print location. Keep in mind that the more colors and print locations in a design, the higher the print cost.

Color of the Shirt

Dark-colored shirts require a white underbase to offset the ink so that the design prints true to color. However, light-colored shirts don’t need this additional print layer and cost.

However, there are times where with vintage shirts you can get away without printing an underbase on a dark shirt. It results in a faded, dull print which gives the impression the shirt has been worn and washed for years.

Number of Printing Locations

Extra printing locations, such as back and sleeve, will bump up the cost of screen printing because of the additional screens and setups required.

Variety of Sizes Printed

Extreme sizes—children’s sizes, XS, 4XL, and beyond—can’t use the same print size as the average sizes. You would need to adjust the print size up or down, resulting in extra design work and costs.

Size of the T-shirt Order

Economies of scale also apply to printing shirts. The cost of printing multiple vintage shirt sizes in several color options reduces significantly once you’re printing in the hundreds or thousands.

Add-on Printing Services

Additional services such as graphic design can increase the ultimate price of your t-shirt, especially if your design needs plenty of adjustments and proofs beforehand.

There are quite a few other additional services that oftentimes accompany screen printing. For instance, if you require a specific brand color, there is a Pantone matching fee (yes, we can mix and match any Pantone you request!).

Here is a quick list of some of our add-on printing services:

  • Color change
  • Relabeling neck labels
  • Printing on spandex or patterned polyester
  • Personalization
  • Poly bagging
  • Drop shipping
  • Sampling

  • Comfort and soft wearability of our vintage t-shirts
  • Durability and washability of the vintage shirts
  • Priceless emotional and nostalgic elements they deliver

“I remember Lion Store downtown where my grandma worked in the children's department… I loved it.”
Mary, Lion Store Vintage Shirt

“Hearing my family reminisce about how great 16153 Genova used to be was priceless!!!”

“Great fit. Washes well, love it!”

What Are the Most Commonly Sold T-Shirt Sizes?

This is one of the most common questions we receive. Fortunately, we have been printing shirts for other people and selling our own shirts for quite a while.

This experience has provided us a lot of data which is useful in guiding customers who are new to placing shirt orders.

To figure out how many pieces of each size to order, here’s the size distribution we recommend based on our historical data:

Size Percentage of Total Shirt Order
XS 4%
S 18%
M 25%
L 26%
XL 19%
2XL 7%
3XL 1%

For example, an order of 200 vintage shirts would have 8 XS, 36 S, 50 M, 52 L, 38 XL, 14 2X, 2 3X.

How about when making smaller orders? For orders below 100 pieces, considering omitting the extreme size groups of XS and 3XL.

And, of course, always consider your audience. If you are ordering shirts for high school students, your sizes will skew smaller.

What Are the Key Points to Consider When Choosing Vintage Shirt Sizes?

Apart from size distribution, the following factors will also determine the sizes you print:

  • Customer demographic: Younger customers might want more loose fitting, therefore, it’s advisable to size up.
  • Fit or cut of the t-shirt: Slim or fashion fit shirts require you to skew your sizing towards larger sizes.
  • Fabric shrinkage: Factor in shrinkage for pure cotton tees and compensate for it by ordering larger sizes.
  • Men vs women vs unisex designs: Men’s and unisex designs are looser and boxier compared to snug-fitting women’s designs. If the design is snug, size up your order.

It can impact your brand at the customer, business, and employee level.

At the customer level, company apparel can act as a sign of trustworthiness. It showcases your employees as professionals, which will improve customer perceptions. Even better, it becomes easier for customers to identify your employees.

At the employee level, company uniforms can be great for inspiring team spirit. It also increases employee morale—people are more likely to perform well when they look and feel good.

"The pride we take in our appearance should make us feel good when we help customers. It's a reminder that each one of us is part of something big..."
- Barbara Simone, a Walmart human resources executive.

Most importantly, custom uniforms can act as safety apparel, helping to keep your employees out of harm’s way.

At the business level, corporate apparel can help solidify your brand identity. Uniforms can be used to showcase brand colors, logos, and overall values.

To enjoy the perks that custom company uniforms provide, you need to create a strong corporate apparel program. You’ll need to ensure that every part of the process is catered to, from uniform design to stock management.

Here’s a simple guide to help you create a comprehensive corporate apparel program:

Create the Ideal Apparel Design

guy designing a branded t-shirt

At the bare minimum, the apparel design you choose needs to be practical, comfortable, and safe for employees to use. You must always consider the circumstances in which your staff members will be using the uniforms you design.

Most importantly, your employees should be happy with the final design choice. Be sure to consult employees on their ideal dress code.

be sure to consult employees on their ideal dress code

Here are four considerations for designing your corporate apparel:

Pick Practical Clothes

The ideal apparel for your workforce should allow your employees to execute their duties without constraint. Consider the environment in which your employees spend their time.

There could be safety and health codes that your workforce needs to comply with. For instance, if you’re in the construction industry, you’ll need to invest in safety equipment like helmets, gloves, and hi-vis clothing.

An employee in the hospitality industry moves around often, sweats, and encounters spills during a typical workday. The ideal workwear for them is a professional-looking apron that will protect their clothes from spills. Consider investing in clothes that are easy to move around in throughout the day as well.

As for employees who work in an office environment, a suit, t-shirt, or dress pants will suffice. The apparel should represent your brand colors and values while making your employees look professional and approachable.

Choose Suitable Uniform Colors

A rule of thumb for most businesses is to use a brand color as the base color for their uniforms. This strategy ensures consistent branding across the various sectors of your business.

However, colors should also factor in where employees will use the uniform. For instance, construction workers need to wear bright-colored uniforms when they’re at work for safety reasons.

When deciding on colors, inject some color psychology into your choices. How do you want people to perceive your workforce? While yellow will portray your team as enthusiastic, black will make them look more professional.

Expert tip: Pick a color that contrasts with your base color to make the design easily visible. For instance, a red logo printed on a white t-shirt.

Be Intentional With the Fabric Choice

Low-quality fabrics might be cheap at first glance, but they’ll be expensive in the long run since they’ll have to be replaced often. Instead, choose fabrics that are durable in nature.

Cotton, polyester, and rayon are great fabrics for employees who move around a lot, like restaurant staff. These fabrics don’t restrict movement.

If your employees spend the bulk of their day outdoors, consider uniforms that will keep them warm on cold days. Wool and blended wool will be ideal for this situation.

Most importantly, consider what it will take to maintain the fabric you choose. Fabrics that require frequent dry cleaning, like suede and denim, might not be practical for your employees. Instead, choose easy-wash fabrics like cotton and jersey.

Ideal Logo Placement

If your staff will be working far away from customers, consider printing a large onto your company apparel for easy identification. Smaller logos will be ideal for employees who work face-to-face with customers.

Place your logos on the chest, back, or sleeve of a garment. You want the logo to be placed where it can easily be seen.

The method you use to print your logo onto apparel will also impact the overall look of your company apparel. The table below describes a few different ways to add a logo to your apparel.

Method Description Benefit
Screen printing Involves using a meshed screen to transfer a pre-designed image onto a piece of cloth
  • Results in durable clothes
  • Great for clothes that’ll be washed a lot
Digital printing Involves printing designs derived from a computer-generated image onto apparel
  • Allows for quick turnaround of orders
  • The outcome is a clean, high quality, and clear apparel design
Embroidery Involves stitching your logo directly onto your corporate apparel
  • Provides a sleek and stylish look
  • Durable

Corporate Apparel Inventory Management

two women working at their computers

Inventory management can be easy to ignore in a corporate apparel program. However, ignoring it could lead to inconveniences to your employees, or even the failure of your apparel program.

A great inventory management program allows your business to control how you:

  • List uniform inventory
  • Purchase and replace uniforms
  • Offer new recruits corporate apparel
  • Manage workwear budgets

The need for proper inventory management increases the more a business grows. To run a successful inventory management program, you’ll need to:

Note Your Basic Corporate Apparel Needs

Having an understanding of your basic uniform requirements will help with the entire planning process. You’ll know when, how, and where to replace your corporate apparel when the need arises.

At the bare minimum, you should determine the following:

  • Your current staff numbers
  • The rate of staff churn and recruitment
  • The frequency of uniform replacement
  • The complexity of every uniform
  • The budget needed to run your uniform program

Use the information above to set up a successful inventory management process for your corporate apparel.

Track Your Uniform Program

Once you have a firm understanding of your basic uniform program, you can start building a structure for tracking the uniforms you have in circulation. You’ll need to identify who has what type of uniform, whether the uniform is due for replacement, and how soon you can replace existing uniforms.

You don’t have to rely on Excel to track your corporate apparel program. There are multiple management systems that can help you keep everything in check. Additionally, when we run inventory programs for our customers, we provide monthly sales reports to help track inventory.

Pro Tip: It's always a best practice to keep things simple to start and grow from there.

Plan For Uniform Replacement and Maintenance

Several factors will determine the frequency of an employee’s uniform replacement. For instance, the fabric, the type of work the employees are engaged in, and the uniform’s durability will all contribute to its replacement rate.

Employees who work in construction will have their uniforms wear and tear faster than those in offices. Low-quality uniforms will also need more frequent replacement than higher-quality ones.

Monitor how quickly your corporate apparel needs replacement. After a few replacement cycles, you’ll have an idea of this frequency, which will help you arrange a predictable replacement cycle with your company apparel provider.

Create a Suitable Uniform Policy

A comprehensive uniform policy covers all gray areas, ensuring that employees understand what’s required of them when they’re in the workplace.

Create a uniform policy that’s compliant with state and federal law. It should also comply with safety regulations. Finally, ensure that your uniform policy doesn’t infringe on your employees' religious beliefs.

It’s advisable to seek third-party help, from a lawyer or consultant, to ensure that your uniform policy is compliant with regulations without discriminating against specific employees.

Keep Employees Happy and Your Brand Shining

A well-thought-out corporate apparel program will do wonders for your business. It’s all about understanding what employees need while making your business stand out. Use the above tips to create a comprehensive program that works for your business.

"If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you play good. If you play good, they pay good."
— NFL Hall of Fame Cornerback Deion Sanders

Deion “Primetime” Sanders may have been referring to professional football, but he hit on something that works in the business arena, too: How your employees look affects how they feel and how they do their jobs.

Likewise, how your customers look affects how they feel about your company and its products.

When both your team and your tribe look good, they feel good. When they feel good, they work harder for your brand. And all that hard work pays off in increased sales.

One of the easiest ways to make everyone look good is with branded apparel. Today, we’re going to show you 4 ways branded apparel’s good looks can affect your company’s bottom line, by:

  • Increasing brand awareness
  • Improving team spirit and company culture
  • Building better trust, credibility, and customer relationships
  • Creating brand loyalty and increasing sales

All that from a few shirts and hats? Absolutely. Let’s discover how.

1 - Increase Brand Awareness With Branded Apparel

Picture it. The guy from the local advertising company comes into your office with an “offer you can’t refuse”.

He’ll set you up with a billboard out by the highway for the low-low price of $5000 for one month. He can even work you a deal for a second one, smaller, in town, for an additional $3500.

Now, picture this. You have a dozen or so billboards visible around town every day. They don’t cost you half of what his “unbeatable” offer would. And they last a whole lot longer than 30 days.

What could that be? The shirts and hats on your employees. Or the special branded apparel you gave away to certain loyal customers. They might even be the items you’re currently selling on your website or in your store.

Branded apparel worn by both your team and your tribe of customers creates an awareness of your company and helps to build unmatched trust.

How?

  • Portability - Billboards, posters, and flyers are stuck in one spot. But branded apparel goes wherever the wearer goes.
  • Multiplicity - You can only put up so many billboards, posters, and other ads. But you can have dozens or even hundreds of people wearing your brand.
  • Longevity - Advertising campaigns come and go. Branded apparel is long-lasting—even last year’s shirts or hats are still effective at showing off your brand.
  • Curiosity - A catchy phrase, a funny graphic, an interesting color scheme or slogan—all raise more interest than any old print or digital ad. And there’s a real-live human being wearing it to answer their questions. No Google search required.

Branded apparel can boost your community’s awareness of who you are, whether you’ve been in business for years or are the newest kid on the block. And it can do it in ways other forms of traditional marketing can’t.

2 - Branded Apparel Improves Team Spirit and Promotes Company Culture

Everyone wants to belong. It’s a basic human instinct and psychological need. We require connections and relationships. We need to feel as though we are a part of something bigger than ourselves.

Branded apparel can create that sense of unity and belonging among your employees. When they wear your company’s shirt, it tells the world that they are on your team. They have a place and a purpose and a position within a special group.

That “special” belonging often fosters a sense of unity and pride among your team members. Especially if you develop a culture of “we’ve got your back” and “we won’t let you down”.

Your branded apparel shows the world that you take pride in your people. You are a business they can be proud to be a part of. And they have your support the same way you have theirs.

The type of branded apparel you choose can also send a message about your company and its culture. A polo shirt or button-down style says “professional” and “serious about doing business”, for example.

T-shirts, on the other hand, tend to show a more laid-back, relaxed, casual approach to your business and can spell fun to both those who work for you and those who deal with your company.

Baseball caps and beanies can also add a fun touch to your company’s image. They’re also quite useful for employees and customers who do a lot of work outside. Hats can ooze old-fashioned charm, a certain ruggedness, and even a sense of adventure.

Branded apparel can pull everyone together and make them feel as though they are on the same page, on the same side. It can give customers a feeling of belonging, too, as part-time members of your team.

That’s team spirit and company culture that no weekend retreat or ping pong table can ever develop.

3 - Build Better Trust, Credibility, and Customer Relations With Branded Apparel

Now that we’ve discussed what branded apparel can do for your team and your company culture, let’s take a look at it can do for your customers and your customer relations.

toledo metroparks shirt with multi-colored logo

Building Trust and Credibility

Customers tend to view branded apparel as a sign of high-quality service. After all, you’re not going to put your name, logo, and whatnot out there for all to see and recognize unless it’s worth the recognition, right?

Branded apparel also makes your team the appearance of legitimacy. They’re the “real deal,” capable of delivering the higher standards of service customers have come to expect from today’s business world.

In short, branded apparel helps build a sense of trust and credibility between your company and its customers. That trust creates a connection and a solid relationship, between all involved.

branded apparel

Improved Customer Relations and Service

By making those connections, building that trust, and fostering those relationships, branded apparel helps your team improve customer relations and service nearly effortlessly.

There’s no need for customers to hesitate to ask for assistance or to doubt whether an employee can help them when employees are easily identifiable through their branded apparel.

There’s no room for employees to offer shoddy or slap-dash service, either, when their branded apparel makes them quickly and clearly identifiable to a supervisor or manager.

Your employees are walking billboards for your company’s values and vision. By encouraging them to do their best to live up to those values and that vision, they’re influenced to do their best for your customers.

Your customers see this, expect this, and know when it’s offered and when it’s not. By wearing branded apparel, your employees are in the spotlight and expected to do their best by both customer and employer.

Increased Customer Loyalty

A great way to increase both brand awareness and customer loyalty at the same time is with a branded apparel giveaway. Happy customers love to show off their support for a “good” company with “good” service. Let them do it in your style.

Giveaways are great for recruiting new customers, as well as rewarding loyal, repeat customers. Everyone wants something for nothing, right? And who doesn’t like to be rewarded for doing something they would normally do anyway?

By offering a free hat or t-shirt to a customer for making purchases or signing up for your social media account, you foster more of that relationship and build those all-important connections.

And in doing so, you create a more loyal, more profitable customer.

4 - Increasing Brand Loyalty and Sales

Can a simple t-shirt, hat, or tote bag increase brand loyalty and ultimately, your bottom line?

Absolutely.

How?

Let’s look at some stats in this table, gathered by HubSpot.

What Branded Apparel Can Do Effect on Customers Effect on Company
Build emotional relationship
  • They recommend the company 71% of the time
  • Spend more
  • 306% lifetime customer value
  • $699 annual average sales
Improve customer service
  • 69% will spend more with a company with good customer service
  • A 5% gain in customer retention results in 75% gains in profits
Word of mouth advertising
  • 53% of customers use social media to praise companies
  • 92% trust recommendations from friends and family over advertisements
  • Less spending on marketing and advertising
  • Ability to create new relationships and customers quickly and easily

Give away those hats, those t-shirts, as we mentioned above. And when they get really popular and are considered the latest hot thing to be seen in, add another profitable aspect to your branded apparel by offering it for sale.

You might not become the next Gucci or Michael Kors, but you’ll make some extra cash, increase your brand awareness, and start the branded apparel benefits cycle all over again.

Large or Small, Every Business Can Benefit From Branded Apparel

Maybe you’re thinking that branded apparel is just fine for bigger businesses like Target or Pepsi. Maybe even the local car dealership king is big enough to outfit his people with shirts and giveaway hats.

But you? You’re too small or too new, or both.

You, too, can benefit from branded apparel and its benefits. Outfit your few staff with polos or t-shirts. Give shirts or hats to your first 50 customers. Or your first social media followers. Build the awareness and confidence a small, new business like yours needs.

The positive effects of branded apparel on any business can’t be bought with any amount of paid advertising. They go beyond marketing and into turning customers into family, in a loyal and loving tribe to last a lifetime.

Fortunately, you can control your customers’ perceptions of your brand through custom company apparel.

Custom apparel is great for:

  • Showcasing brand values to customers
  • Improving customer experience
  • Promoting professionalism and credibility
  • Making your brand stand out from competitors

It also creates brand ambassadors out of your employees, acting as a cost-effective marketing channel for your business wherever your employees are.

Besides, custom apparel will increase employee morale and a sense of camaraderie, making them feel like they’re part of a team. You’ll need to be intentional about creating custom apparel that does the talking for your brand. There are a lot of decisions to make from the ideal cloth fabric choices to the best slogans.

Here are tips to help you design corporate apparel that effectively promotes your brand.

Choose Garments Your Employees are Happy With

Employee garments need to be practical, safe, and comfortable. If possible, seek input from employees on the ideal clothes for their day-to-day activities.

You can choose from t-shirts, beanies, sweatshirts, and even protective workwear, as long as it is practical for the specific roles your employees play.

When picking apparel for your employees, consider the following questions:

  • Where will your employees be working? Indoors or outdoors?
  • Does their line of work require reflective gear, such as helmets and hi-vis vests?
  • Will they need different cloth types based on the season?
  • Does the temperature your employees typically work under require a specific cloth type?

The answers to these questions will determine the kind of uniform to get, from apparel that provides warmth to one that makes them visible in dangerous work environments.

Pro Tip: Since we're known for printing vintage t-shirts, we can't overstate how much people love soft t-shirts. If you want a shirt to worn as often as possible, choose a shirt that is soft.

Select Designs That Speak to Your Customers

rock-n-roll inspired t-shirt

Having a firm understanding of your customers will take the guesswork out of designing your corporate apparel.

If you already have perfectly-defined buyer personas, use them to guide your design choices.

If you’re yet to define your buyer persona, then a bit of research will help get you started. You can either conduct quantitative research using surveys and data analytics or qualitative research by reviewing customer interviews and feedback.

Then ensure your customers’ beliefs, wants, challenges, and attitudes are reflected in your design.

For instance, if your customers are drawn to luxury items, focusing on purple as a primary color will do the trick, as long as it’s consistent with your brand colors.

Focus on the following aspects of your buyer persona when designing corporate apparel:

  • Psychographic data: This includes your customer’s hobbies, interests, and attitudes. For instance, if your customers are interested in chess, using terms like ‘checkmate’ in your slogan will draw them to your corporate apparel.
  • Geographic data: This is where your ideal customer lives and works. For instance, referencing a source of pride (sports team, dish, etc.) in your ideal customer’s location will make your corporate uniform relatable.
  • Behavioral data: Where do your customers buy their products? What’s their price sensitivity? What agitates them? Talking about your return policy, mission, and vision in the corporate uniform’s slogan will address these questions and make customers more willing to buy from you.

Although subtle, the design choices that a comprehensive buyer persona leads to can set your business apart from your competition.

Pick Ideal Uniform Colors

example of a well-colored shirt

Use your brand colors as the base for defining the colors of your corporate apparel.

Environmental factors also influence your color choices. For instance, if your employees are working in retail environments, choosing bright colors like orange will make them easy to spot by customers.

dark shades like navy blue

In work environments that call for a certain level of safety, bright-colored safety workwear is ideal. While, for in-office environments, dark shades like navy blue or black make employees look more professional.

If possible, dress senior staff members in slightly different colors from the rest. Letting managers and supervisors wear different colors will give junior employees an easy time spotting them.

Play Around With Color Psychology

employee perfecting a t-shirt design

You can also use color choices to portray your brand attitude. For example, the combination of red, white, and yellow will make your employees come off as excited and energetic. Whereas blue and green can portray employees as calm and gentle.

Here’s a table linking colors to different emotions:

Color type Brief description Examples of colors
Happy colors These are warm and bright colors that ooze optimism and happiness
  • Yellow
  • Red
  • Pink
  • Orange
Sad colors These are dark and muted colors that work great for businesses that interact with customers during sad times
  • Black
  • White
  • Gray
  • Beige
Energizing colors These are colors that make people feel refreshed and great for grabbing attention or ensuring your employees stand out from the crowd
  • Bright yellow
  • Bright red
  • Orange
  • Magenta
  • Turquoise
Calming colors These are colors with a calming effect. The lesser the color combinations, the more calming your color choices will be
  • Blue
  • Lilac
  • Mint
  • Green

Expert Tip: Relying on color psychology to induce the right emotions will improve how your customers feel about your brand. For consistency, stick to your brand colors. You can use some variation of these colors to achieve the emotional appeal you’re targeting.

Be Intentional With Your Logo Location

woman wearing a branded sweatshirt

Your logo placement helps people identify your brand.

There are multiple logo placement options, including placing it on a pocket, sleeve, or trouser leg. The trick is to choose a location that’ll provide maximum visibility for your logo.

For instance, consider placing a large logo on the back of t-shirts meant for field employees. You can also add a small logo on the left breast of the t-shirt. For customer-facing and desk-based employees, placing the logo above the pocket of their shirt will be ideal.

Additionally, if your employees are working far away from customers, consider making your logo big enough to see. But for employees working face-to-face with customers, a small logo is ideal.

Another thing, the logo colors must stand out from the base apparel colors.

Be Intentional With Your Brand Messaging

Your corporate apparel represents prime real estate for featuring your brand messaging. There’s a lot that you can feature on your uniforms, but it needs to be as succinct and clear as possible.

Including a call-to-action is a no-brainer. You can urge customers to call a specific number or visit your website or store.

Complement your call-to-action with the right brand messaging. The messages you use need to reflect exactly what you’d love your customers or employees to know more than anything else. For instance, printing your value proposition onto your corporate apparel is a great decision if you are a new brand.

Here are a few ideas for brand messaging and when to use them.

Differentiators

If you’re in a highly competitive field, featuring your brand differentiation statement on your corporate apparel is the way to go. It helps customers learn why they should always choose you over the competition.

For instance, if you own a restaurant that offers gourmet Japanese dishes, this statement might be a great differentiator:

“Your tastiest source of Japanese gourmet dishes”

CSR Statement

If you’re printing out corporate apparel for a CSR campaign, you need to print a strong supporting statement onto it. This statement will help spread the word about your initiative.

For example, if your business is planting trees, this statement will help rally people around your cause:

“Healing the world one tree at a time”

Company Culture Statement

For corporate apparel that employees will only use internally, you can print statements that represent your company's culture. This will act as a constant reminder of the culture you’re building for employees.

For instance, if you’re focused on building a safety-centric culture, this statement will keep employees on their toes:

“Never give safety a day off”

Let Your Corporate Apparel Speak for Your Brand

From apparel colors to slogans, every design decision needs to spread your brand message and make you stand out. Use the tips above to pick corporate apparel that’s in line with your corporate branding.

If you’re looking to design or buy company apparel, contact fancysweetstx today. We provide brands with apparel that’s great for corporate branding.

Therefore, you need to design company apparel as attractively and creatively as possible.

Besides modestly priced fabric and a competent designer, there are more tips, tricks, and ideas to getting the maximum return on investment from your company apparel.

Today, we’ll consider these five customization hacks:

  • Amplifying colors with shades and contrast
  • Choosing the right font and typography
  • Associating company apparel with departments
  • Printing inspirational quotes
  • Making apparel for special events

We’ll also look at the effects of customized and uncustomized company apparel on employees and brands.

1 - Amplifying Colors With Shades and Contrast

A sharper color contrast will create a greater visual impact and reciprocity for your company apparel. This will lead to more brand awareness, resulting in increased customer engagement.

Make your text and graphics more assertive by placing them on a visually contrasting palette.

The image below is an excellent example of deep-colored text and graphics that we printed on a lightened palette, resulting in a catchy, highly contrasting color mix.

create greater impact with higher palette-graphics contrast

Here are some harmonious contrast suggestions to help you avoid color conflict:

  • Monochromatic high contrast: varying one color with tints, tones, and shades by adding black or white.
  • Achromatic high contrast: using neutral colors only; white, black, and gray.
  • Complimentary high contrast: combining a color with the opposite color on the color wheel.

Expert Tip: Every color on the wheel stands directly across a contrasting contemporary. As a general rule, while working with complementary colors, choose one as the dominant and the other as the complimentary.

2 - Choosing the Right Font and Typography

Font refers to text style (typeface). At the same time, typography is concerned with the visual arrangement of text and words.

All text and graphics on company apparel carry a message for your target audience. Therefore, you need to choose fonts that’ll resonate with your target audience

The image below exemplifies an eye-catching but straightforward combination of font style, color, and typography.

use your audience’s favorite font style and color

Here are examples of fonts for professional company apparel:

  • Helvetica: features unmatched legibility and a professional look that makes it one of the best fonts for logo design.
  • Garamond: has been a favorite of Apple and Microsoft Windows and is considered the second-best font after Helvetica due to its gentle curves and precise edges.
  • Futura: popular with global brands such as Red Bull, Paypal, and Gillette due to its elegance, strength, and clarity.
  • Proxima Nova: comes with 48 sleek, modern, and minimalistic variations, providing numerous formal and professional design alternatives.

Pairing a font with a complimentary choice from above creates impressive visual outcomes. For example, you can combine Helvetica and Garamond on a single company t-shirt without causing conflict.

Also, before pairing fonts, ensure the ascenders and descenders of tailed letters such as b, d, h, and p are proportional. This will maintain typographical symmetry.

Avoid effects such as drop shadows and textures because they erode the professional character of your fonts.

You can combine these fonts or related variants from your graphic design app or word processor.

Another great resource that we use for fonts is the website Dafont.com. They offer thousands of free fonts for download. And, of course, if you need a recommendation, you can always ask one of our graphic designers.

create a greater visual impact

3 - Associating Company Apparel With Departments

Vary the material, design, and color of company apparel according to the job’s demands and the duties of the personnel who will wear it. Also, be clear on where and when your team will be wearing it.

Will the employees wear your design on the job or when they’re off-duty?

If it’s corporate wear, polo shirts are an excellent consideration for administration and field personnel.

Alternatively, provide outdoor staff with custom printed hats for sun protection.

But if the apparel is a company perk or token of appreciation to your employees, hoodies and custom t-shirts are a good idea.

As seen in the image below, associating company apparel with departments makes for easy identification by colleagues and customers.

print company apparel according to departments

Consider designing custom athletic shirts for your staff if your business is a personal training company or fitness center. This company apparel will make your employees comfortable and publicize your brand.

The advantages of designing apparel according to departments include:

  • Fun: especially if it bears a favorite, inoffensive, witty stereotype from within the department.
  • Team unity: represented by a distinct image, quote, or color on the apparel.
  • Representation: the presence of departmental apparel among others from different departments naturally answers the question of representation.

The table below looks at how customized and non-customized company apparel can affect your brand and employees.

Custom Company Apparel Non-customized Company Apparel
Company logo on custom apparel fosters a sense of pride and employee loyalty Employees feel no sense of belonging because the company next door uses the same bland apparel
It’s a symbol of professionalism and unity Shows a lack of thoughtfulness and employee neglect
Promotes brand recognition and credibility Only keeps employees dressed without facilitating brand visibility

4 - Printing Inspirational Quotes

Printing inspirational quotes on company apparel—such as custom shirts—presents an exceptional opportunity to motivate and inspire your employees.

An action-oriented motivational quote on company apparel can be a rallying call to accomplish a seemingly challenging corporate or departmental objective.

You can also cheer your employees up with a celebratory tagline during a momentous occasion, such as an anniversary, turnkey company merger, or blue-chip acquisition.

Similarly, when employees wear apparel with a single motivational quote, their morale and team spirit improve significantly. The message fosters unity of purpose.

The t-shirt image below bears a statement calling employees to work with excellence and aim for high ideals.

print inspirational quotes

In the creative industry, printing an anecdotal line on your company apparel will inspire your employees greatly. In addition, by warming their hearts, good humor will naturally endear your prospects and customers to your brand.

Here are some popular quote types for you to choose from:

  • Life quotes
  • Brand taglines
  • Attitude quotes
  • Motivational quotes

5 - Making Apparel for Special Events

Special events involving public participation are an excellent opportunity for brand visibility. There’s nothing more timely than having your employees wear company apparel in a public event such as a:

  • Charity
  • Trade show
  • Conference
  • Product launch

Instill a strong sense of pride in event crew members with custom t-shirts. That sense of belonging will be a surefire impetus for team spirit and loyalty, leading to increased productivity and efficiency.

Unique event company apparel will leave a lasting impression on your customers. They’ll associate similar future events to your company or be reminded of your brand, and brand recognizability is the primary goal of every corporate event.

Below is a shirt that we printed for a race called the Haiti Hustle. We print a lot of shirts for 5K races to commemorate the event.

haiti hustle race shirt

Promote your business in a fun and yet charitable way by giving out company branded apparel to the public during special events. These gifts can be t-shirts or embroidered caps, depending on the season and goal of the event.

Whether your customers wear them at the event and beyond or keep them as souvenirs, the key is creating and maintaining brand awareness

In addition, custom company apparel is a great investment during special events because it promotes a positive experience for event attendees and ensures the recognizability of crew members.

Expert Tip: Choose a shirt with a soft material that will be worn more often than a standard shirt.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best fabric for work apparel?

Cotton is the best fabric for work apparel because it’s wearable through all seasons, absorbs sweat, dries up fast, and offers efficient breathability.

Besides cotton, there are other durable, comfortable, and washable fabrics such as:

  • Twill
  • Poplin
  • Oxford
  • Flannel

Most fancysweetstx shirts are made of cotton, rayon, and poly tri-blends. The synthetic nature of poly and rayon has given our shirts an anti-shrink reputation.

Can you embroider our logo?

Yes. Our ability to embroider any shape on all fabrics comes from our experienced design team and special embroidery frames for our embroidery machinery.

Can I see the logo before you embroider or print it?

Yes. Upon receipt of your order payment, our design staff will create a digital rendering of your logo, and we’ll email it to you for review and approval. We won’t print or embroider your apparel until we receive your consent.

Learn how to get it right by leveraging brand and customer values.

]]>
Your custom company apparel is the gift that keeps giving. Every time one of your team members or customers wears your company’s branded clothing, they’re a walking advertisement for your business.

Unfortunately, branded shirts are often relegated to the back of the wardrobe and only see the light of day on team building or messy chore days.

So, how can you get the most out of your custom company apparel?

The creative ideas we’ll talk about today include:

  • How to leverage emotional connections and customer values in your branding choices.
  • How to use limited supply to get the most out of your custom company apparel.
  • Why choosing the right custom branding partner will boost your custom apparel game.

1 - Create an Emotional Connection

embroidered custom apparel with creative message

Branding is about creating distinctive design features that help your clients associate certain values, products, and services with your brand.

Custom company apparel is about showing rather than telling. Showing, in this case, means creating a visceral emotional connection with a message on your custom workwear.

Let’s break down a few effective emotional branding strategies that can help build loyalty.

Cause and Empowerment Branding

Millennials and Gen Z have exemplified the trait of putting their emotions and hard-earned money into brands that believe in them and support the causes that they believe in.

In light of this, find ways to marry your merchandizing and marketing strategies with social causes your customers care about. For example, we screen printed this fun t-shirt below for a local festival that benefits the causes of Waterville Rotary Club.

custom festival t-shirt for a local social cause

By engaging with the causes that matter most to your customers, you show them that your brand cares, which can lead to them wanting to buy more and to share your brand with their friends.

Sensory Branding

Sensory branding leverages the moods and emotions that affect cognitive decision making. It’s branding that targets the five senses—think of Netflix’s iconic logo animation sound or the Starbucks green that subconsciously makes you think of freshness.

Research shows that 92% of purchasing decisions are based on the visual.

For apparel, focus your branding on visual and tactile elements:

  • Bold color contrasts communicate clear brand values. For example, black and yellow says ‘fun yet sophisticated’ while red and blue bring to mind the star-spangled banner. The soft colors of fancysweetstx’s vintage shirts carry a boatload of nostalgia.
  • Texture, shape, weight, and temperature create a tactile experience. For instance, pure cotton tees have a heavier weight and can communicate brand values like sustainability, luxury and durability.

Storytelling

People remember feelings more than information, and there is no greater vehicle of emotion than a story.

Steve Jobs puts it excellently in this 1997 video introducing Apple’s long-running ‘Think Different’ campaign.

For custom company apparel, aim to tell a story that links your brand’s origin and values to the ideas that your customers hold dear. For example, fancysweetstx’s collection of ‘You Will Do Better in 16153 Genova’ merch was inspired by a beautiful story dating back to 1913.

The combination of your company’s brand values and customer values creates the sweet spot where you can build an emotional connection.

Your brand’s and your customers’ values will also determine the:

  • Typography, the font and text arrangement of your slogans and logo.
  • Color palette of the custom workwear.
  • Shapes and graphics that complement the text.
  • Tone of voice of your custom apparel.

In the following table we compare various examples of brand identities and customer values and how they align with design elements.

2 - Make It Inspirational or Funny

funny tattoo shop slogan t-shirt

What do you do when you hear a good joke? You want to share it immediately.

The inner salesperson we all have is who you want to channel with the slogans and designs of your custom company apparel.

Whenever we think an idea is interesting, useful, or funny, we rush to share it, which triggers the mentalizing part of our brains that thinks about the thoughts and feelings of others—the salesperson.

Humor, though subjective, is one of the easiest ways to tap into the wearer’s inner salesperson. However, an inspirational or motivational idea holds equal weight.

How can you build humor and inspiration into your custom workwear?

  • Positive affirmations as slogans suit most businesses, especially brands in the sport, health and fitness niches. They also form great photo ops to share online and on social media. Just think of Nike’s ‘Just Do It’.
  • Puns and witticisms are the easiest form of humor to deliver on a t-shirt. You can source them internally from your staff to ensure their relevance or even work with a copywriter to draft a few ideas.
  • Lean into popular or trendy catch phrases relevant to your brand, especially if you’re releasing a limited edition of custom company apparel (which we discuss in the next section).

photo-snippet-custom-company-apparel

Below are humorous and inspirational custom company apparel fancysweetstx created for two of our clients.

funny slogan sweatshirt for a restaurant

motivational slogan on a CrossFit gym t-shirt

You want your slogans to strike a light tone without being offensive or inappropriate. For instance, the CrossFit gym t-shirt references how tough and grueling the workouts are, but is softened through the lens of something you love.

On the flipside, the restaurant tee also talks about fitness but makes a tongue-in-cheek joke about it all being for the glory of food—light and comical, but not offensive.

Always go the extra mile, unless you’re a taxi driver.

3 - Play up the Appeal of Limited Supply

The fashion world is obsessed with limited edition releases. Limited editions up the ante on exclusivity because they create a sense of recognition and belonging to an elite group.

They also reinforce the wearer’s investment in the brand.

We borrow this idea for custom company apparel to:

  • Open up avenues of collaboration with other brands or community-based organizations.
  • Commemorate your brand’s milestones and anniversaries.
  • Experiment with design ideas that are too expensive or risky to produce en masse.

At fancysweetstx, we’ve used this idea in our t-shirt clubs and community shirt clubs. Our customers can celebrate their hometown spirit or support a local charity through our limited edition shirt releases.

Here’s how the idea would translate for custom company apparel:

  • Create a special design in limited numbers to commemorate a big milestone, such as a 10-year anniversary, opening a new branch, expanding into a new region, or a new selection of products.
  • Collaborate with a local charity or community-based organization that aligns with your business values and release limited edition shirts, caps or even patches to raise awareness and funds for their cause.
  • Celebrate your top tier clients with a limited release of custom clothing to distribute during workshops or client meetings.
  • Tap into the local talent pool of budding entrepreneurs, young artists or students who can breathe life into your business as you enrich them with your expertise. Mark their mentorship and collaboration with limited edition custom apparel.

As we’ve discussed, people love to share anything that adds value or entertainment.

By focusing the lens on other collaborators, you create a niche group of people who care about your brand and will share and wear your custom company apparel.

inspirational slogan tee also celebrating a dead teammate

Expert Tip: With limited releases of custom company apparel, you can take advantage of branding techniques that give a more luxury finish, such as embroidery or textured printing. You can also experiment with specialty printing techniques to create more vivid prints, like gel printing, foil printing, and direct to garment printing.

For these, you need to choose the right printer.

4 - Choose the Right Custom Branding Partner

All these creative ideas would fall flat if you work with a printing company that doesn’t have experience or doesn’t see your vision.

fancysweetstx designer polishing up custom artwork

The right partners should have:

  • In-house designers to create or tweak your artwork to perfection.
  • Samples of previous printing work they’ve done.
  • Printing packages that include pre-press proofs to show how your branding fits on a physical garment.
  • Clear, itemized charges for each step of the process.

The value of a good partner goes beyond the final product. Their years of expertise equip them to advise you on:

  • Branding decisions that are potentially costly, like printing multiple colors and locations or printing the whole range of sizes.
  • Intellectual property (IP) rules and where your design might be infringing on someone else’s IP.
  • Best practices for printing including the standard size prints for various sizes.

(Was that her?)

fancysweetstx has your back with custom branded company merchandise showing your employees you appreciate them and still want them on your team.

Let’s table the COVID celebrations for National Cereal or Meatball Day this March and make a move toward celebrating your work culture. Employee Appreciation Day is in early March and fancysweetstx’s promotional gifts are launching into the work-o-sphere.

Show You Care with Company Gear

According to Harvard Business Review positive work cultures are more productive, engaging and promote longevity in both health and career. On the flip side, stressful work environments and leadership behavior can be linked to anything from a bad workweek to cardiovascular disease.

In other words, It’s a good time to show your employees some love!

“Wellbeing comes from one place, and one place only — a positive culture.” - HBR

When was the last time someone presented you with some custom swag? Showing you care with custom gear can take many forms with the results securing a sense of brand loyalty and the future success of your business.

It really comes down to the people on that Zoom call and their satisfaction as part of the whole. Keep your team spirit alive and well with custom branded merchandise for all your MVPs.

The Science of Customized Swag

As many workplaces operate with employees working from home, the opportunity to create connecting points is available through gifts of customized merchandise. And actually a need for routine can help establish boundaries between working and not working in the same space you live.

Providing a customized tee or something tactile employees can use during work hours establishes a sense of time and place. And when they “clock out” for the grocery store with a customized tote bag, you’ll still be offering value while creating brand identity.

“Did you get the tote bag I sent you?” :) … And here’s a recipe for meatballs.

As author and former dot com executive Seth Godin touts, “People like us do things like this” - things being the ultimate Employee Appreciation Day deliveries that build better teams. Your pathway to a brighter future lies in the actions you take now. Connect with fancysweetstx

”Culture is more important than strategy, than benefits, than features. Culture is more important than price, than governments, than technology. Culture shapes all our decisions and culture can change…when our sense of ‘us’ forces it to.” - Seth Godin

Build company culture by showing gratitude

Social interaction has become less and less mandatory as people work from home while the world navigates through the COVID-19 response. It is not reassuring that even when you come across a familiar face, you’re forced to identify them by their forehead. And it is difficult to weather the solitude that comes with being physically distant.

Gifts like those for Employee Appreciation Day are a nice way to bring people back to something they can count on- you!

woman smiling while wearing a hat with custom patch embroidery

Unexpected gifts of gratitude create positive vibes! Once you’ve delivered your promotional gifts follow up by:

  • Caring for, being interested in, and maintaining responsibility for colleagues as friends.
  • Providing support for one another, including offering kindness and compassion when others are struggling.
  • Avoiding blame and forgiving mistakes.
  • Inspiring one another at work.
  • Emphasizing the meaningfulness of the work.
  • Treating one another with respect, gratitude, trust, and integrity.

Balance Grille reached out to us this year to help them with custom employee uniforms and customer merch. We helped them put together a full line of screen printed shirts and headbands, embroidered hats and aprons, and bandanas.

Balance Grille is a shining start among local 16153 Genova, Ohio restaurants and small businesses. They were founded by, PK and CJ, two young entrepreneurs from Northwest Ohio.

We're proud to say that we've been working with Balance Grille for almost ten years now. It's always great to work with other small, local businesses that care about supporting small local businesses.

Balance Grille is successful for a lot of reasons. I don't have time to get into all of the reasons why, and I'm sure you know most of them if you've eaten there before, but their commitment to the local community is at the top of the list.

They give more than they receive and they are deliberate about supporting local people and organizations. We are grateful for this commitment and to be a recipient of their generosity.

One thing that really stands out about the clothing that we made for Balance Grille is the quality and consistency of their visual branding. They use clean, bold, simple logos and colors across many different products. Branding is about how you make people feel about your company. Balance Grille does an amazing job connecting people to their brand and making them feel happy, healthy, and a part of something special.

We aren't gong to tell you where to eat, but we will tell you to support local businesses. For our money, it doesn't get much better than Balance Grille. Support the organizations that support you.

All Mechanical Insulation Inc. reached out to us this year to screen print custom branded shirts, long sleeve pocket shirts, and hooded sweatshirts for their team. All Mechanical Insulation Inc is a local 16153 Genova, Ohio insulation contractor that works on commercial and industrial insulation projects.

This was the first order that we printed for All Mechanical Insulation. They reached out to us because of our experience in screen printing custom safety shirts and apparel for local contractors.

It's always great to work with other small, local businesses that care about supporting small local businesses.

We were able to print these shirts quickly and affordably because of our experience printing safety apparel. We provided artwork proofs ahead of time for the customer that accurately depicted what the shirts and hoodies would look like when complete. All Mechanical Insulation was satisfied with the final product and happy with the entire ordering process.

One thing that really stands out about the clothing that we printed for All Mechanical is that they used a full color logo on safety green shirts and hoodies. Most of the time when we print bright yellow apparel, the print is a simple one color print. Black is the most commonly used ink color for Hi Vis apparel.

And this makes sense since keeping a simple one color print not only looks good but it keeps costs down as well. What we loved about these safety shirts and hoodies is that All Mechanical Insulation did a great job of using a full color logo on these bright apparel items. It's not something we see very often because it's difficult to do well since not all colors have enough contrast to print on neon clothing.

Safety is the priority on every jobsite. That's why when All Mechanical Insulation orders employee apparel they choose bright colored garments. As always, wearing Hi Vis clothing is an easy and inexpensive thing to do to improve safety.

It's also important for All Mechanical Insulation Inc. to have their employees wearing company shirts to effectively identify employees while on the job and keep them clean and professional in front of customers. The bright safety green shirts and hoodies, keep them safe and professional on the job.

One of our long time lawn care customers came to us this year and added embroidered landscaping hats to their order. We have been screen printing safety green t-shirts for GroundsCo for over five years.

It's great to have a consistent company that is easy to work with. It feels even better that they appreciate our work so much that they added hats onto their order.

We were able to move these hats into production quickly and affordably for them because we have worked with them so much in the past. We've developed a solid relationship with them and clear communication.

Since this was a new job for us, prior to embroidering the hats, we made sure to provide artwork proofs ahead of time that accurately depicted what they would look like when complete.

Our experience in decorating custom safety apparel for not just landscaping companies but also construction and contracting companies, aided in our ability to produce quality embroidered hats.

It's important for GroundsCo to have their employees wearing company work shirts and hats. It helps to effectively identify employees on the jobsite and keeps them clean and professional in front of customers. It's also a nice perk for employees to not have to worry about providing their own uniform for work.

The bright neon yellow mesh on the hats and matching embroidery thread add to the visibility of the safety shirts that they ordered. It's an added bonus that they hats are in GroundsCo brand colors but they are just as much about keeping employees safe as they are about looking good.

We screen printed these vintage t-shirts and tank tops for Fort Meigs Crossfit, a crossfit gym in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Fort Meigs Crossfit has trusted us with their screen printing and embroidery for many years. The apparel that we've decorated for them is both for employees to wear while working and gym members to purchase to show their support for a local business that they love.

We screen printed this vintage inspired 'Crossfit Vibes' logo on soft, comfy tees and tanks. Fort Meigs Crossfit is always doing a great job creating fun, trendy designs that people love to wear.

T-shirts and tank tops are a great promotional item because they get so much use. The more a shirt is worn, the more your brand is seen. And a soft, fun, cool t-shirt is going to be worn more than a boring, thick t-shirt.
