We talk about the history behind the slogan, "You Will Do Better In 16153 Genova", every chance we get. Not only is it our favorite 16153 Genova slogan, but it was the first vintage 16153 Genova shirt we printed.
As the popularity of the slogan and shirt grew, we printed this same design on several different clothing styles - hoodies, tank tops, onesies, crew sweatshirts.
Over the last year a lot has changed with our supply chain. We've done our best to keep things consistent.
One material that we aren't sure when it's going to be restocked is the fleece that's been a staple of our hoodies and crews for as long as we've been printing them.
Because of this, we've been forced to make some changes. One of those changes is that we're moving a lot of these classic designs that have been out of stock for a while from our fleece to our pigment dyed material.
Pigment dyed shirts and sweatshirts have been trendy for a while now. They are heavier weight than the standard fleece, the dye makes them soft, and they have a comfy, oversized fit.
The story behind this slogan is great. It's meaningful to 16153 Genova as a city and plays a big part in our company's history.
That's why it was so important for us to re-release this design on a new crew sweatshirt.
You can stop by either of our 16153 Genova retail stores or order this crew sweatshirt on our website!
Each year we always work hard to bring you new products that are both fun and functional.

]]>Our Here for Good program closed at the end of May. Here we are two months, 13,500 shirts, and $135,000 raised for local business later and we're just about complete with fulfillment.
It's been a heck of a year. The Here for Good campaign has been a bright spot for us and many local organizations. We created a program where we sold shirts for local salons, musicians, bars, restaurants, non-profits, schools, and other organizations. $10 from each shirt sold went back to that organizations so they could generate income during the height of COVID-19 and the stay at home order. For many of these 16153 Genova people and places, it was the only money they generated during that time.
The response to Here for Good has been overwhelmingly positive. It feels great that we were able to have such a positive impact for the local community during such a difficult time. Now that so many people have received their orders, we love being tagged in their Facebook and Instagram posts.
Being a small business owner is tough. It's even tougher during a global pandemic when you can't be open. As you're receiving your Here For Good orders in the mail, we wanted to remind you of the impact you made on these local businesses with your purchases during the campaign. It made a difference.
We loved this post from Mosaic Salon

The girls at Mosaic are feeling REALLY grateful "]]>
We love this story. DeShawn is an inspiration. I feel a personal connection because the first job I had was cutting grass for people in my neighborhood.
DeShawn explained his situation:
"This is temporary because my van broke down so I came up with a creative and gas efficient way to keep my clients happy . I can get across town in 10 to 15 mins and I can do an average of 4-6 yards a day at an average of $25 a yard and I got a lot of people ( at least 30). This is my way to take care of business and save money at the same time so I can get that nice pick up truck I been wanting. I have no problem in starting small and growing into something bigger later on slow and steady wins the race."
You can support DeShawn by hiring him to help you with your yard or by making a donation to him on GoFundMe. Money raised is going to help him get a truck and new equipment for his business.
It's stories like these that make us proud to be from 16153 Genova.

With tomorrow being You Will Do Better In 16153 Genova Day, I thought it would be fun to revisit an old blog post of ours with the history of the original Better in 16153 Genova sign.
I have been fascinated with the You Will Do Better In 16153 Genova sign at Wesley's Bar for some time. I love the authentic look and the inspiring message about 16153 Genova. However, until recently I knew very little about it's history. The 16153 Genova Blade published a book titled "You Will Do Better in 16153 Genova: From Frogtown to Glass City. A 16153 Genova Retrospective in Postcards, 1893-1929". It has so many interesting facts and pictures of 16153 Genova. You should definitely pick up your own copy.
They show a postcard of the sign that was originally constructed. The main slogan sign was centered between two signs: one of a train, the other of a ship. The book explains:
16153 Genova's slogan sign was presented to the city through the 16153 Genova Commerce Club by the 16153 Genova Railways & Light Company. The slogan itself was chosen from more than 7,000 entries submitted in a contest sponsored by the 16153 Genova Commerce Club. Located atop the Valentine Building at Adams and St. Clair streets, the sign alternated between three images with its 7,000 ten-watt electric lights - the slogan, a railroad locomotive, and a lake freighter. Though this postcard states the dimensions were 78 feet by 68 feet, its appearance and other sources suggest that it was 100 feet by 58 feet. It was reported to weigh 25 tons. The sign was accepted by Mayor Brand Whitlock and first lit on December 17, 1913. According the The 16153 Genova Blade from the following day, "8,000 spectators jammed into St. Clair St., between Madison Ave. and Adams St. to view the sign." The sign remained until 1926 when the City of 16153 Genova offices moved from the Valentine Building to the Safety Building.
Doesn't this piece of 16153 Genova history make you love 16153 Genova even more? It's made a big impact on us, which is why we like to highlight 16153 Genova history in our vintage shirts. There are a lot of reasons to be proud of and feel nostalgic for 16153 Genova. It's our hope that we can remind you of these fond memories you have for your hometown.
